Tahiti has several mountain peaks over 2000 metres, often draped in clouds and covered in dense tropical rain forest. The island has some fantastic hiking trails, waterfalls and great lookouts as well as plenty of day tours. Papeete is a lively French influenced town with cafes, restaurants and nightclubs. The international airport and a dozen or so resorts spread along the west coast alongside small sandy beaches with views of Moorea. Tahiti, the main island of French Polynesia, has several unusual black sand beaches and some of the best surfing in the South Pacific. Much of the coastline is rocky and there are only a couple of white sand beaches

Moorea is a laid back holiday island, 10-mins flight from Tahiti. There are several nice beaches with water activities, a handful of large beach resorts, lots of smaller family-owned pensions and some excellent restaurants. With its stunning bays and rugged mountains, Moorea is a great choice for those who like sightseeing and day tours coupled with a beach holiday. There are several good walking trails for the more energetic.

The stunning lagoon of Bora Bora is scattered with tiny coral islands fringing the reef and the lagoon has some of the best snorkelling sites with Manta Rays, Reef Sharks, Mooray eels and thousands of tropical reef fish. The picturesque mountains and small offshore islands with gorgeous beaches and overtwater bungalows make Bora Bora the most popular island to visit. Unfortunately its beauty has resulted in over-commercialism

Fare Town is a picturesque waterfront village with a predominantly Polynesian population. The island offers some of the most important archaeological sites in Polynesia.
These uncommercial sister islands offer a taste of Tahiti off the beaten tourist track with high mountains. This is a popular sailing destination and there are several lovely resorts and guesthouses.
Similar in appearance to Bora Bora with a beautiful lagoon and sandy beaches, Maupiti has only a handful of guesthouses making it the preferred choice for those looking for a more genuine holiday experience.

The vast expanse of the Tuamotu Islands have some of the worlds largest coral atolls, low lying islands often less than 5 metres above sea level with an inner lagoon. Black Pearl farming and beach tourism are the main sources of income. The inner lagoon passages are rich in nutrients and offer the best scuba diving experience in French Polynesia with manta rays , dolphins, thousands of tropical fish and colourful corals. These remote islands are also popular as a sailing destination.

The inspiration of painter Paul Gauguin, the Marquesas are a remote and very traditional collection of large volcanic islands whose sheer cliffs tumble straight into the sea. This is the place for explorers and adventurers.
